Appendix B
Analytical Methods
LSoil Sample Field Examination
Soil samples are classified according to the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS), and, or
American Geological Institute (AGI) terminology. More specific geologic terms are often
useful in describing soil and sediment textures, mineralogy, geochemical attributes, and geologic
structures.
L
Representative soil samples may be submitted to analytical laboratories for examination and
P P Y Yt
verification of field observations. Soil types are indicated on logs of excavations and borings,
.
together with depths corresponding to the sampling points and other pertinent information.
Soil samples are often collected to document soil (sic, stratigraphic) profiles beneath the project
site.
Laboratory Testing
Most of the soil samples collected in the field are submitted for routine chemical analysis at
C
Sequoia Analytical Laboratories,Inc.,a California-certified laboratory which maintains an office
in Sacramento. All Sequoia Analytical work is completed in accordance with standard EPA
analytical protocols. The following table lists EPA methods which may be used for this
sampling program.
Sierra-Pacific Groundwater Consultants, Inc. B-1
L
