A couple things: 1) Is there a well-abandonment procedure somewhere in the report so that I can also provide approval for closure of well MW-4 in my letter, and FYI 2) we agree with the study's work plan; however, an evaluation of the data results and characterization of the site gradient and flow is needed before any determinations by our staff on the "present-day background concept" can be made as appropriate in this case. In regards to having the submitted Work Plan and Time Scheduled review by your staff could you provide some written concurrence fromyour office that we can proceed with the work as described in the work plan in order to obtain well closure and construction permits from San Joaquin County. Could you please provide a statement via letter or email that your office allows closure of well MW-4 and groundwater sampling and well construction described in the Work Plan. our work plan submitted March 11 included the Time Schedule (Table 7) , which showed the Grab Sampling starting May 1, 2009 and the beginning of the Study as July 1, 60 days later. (The formal commencement of the study is proposed to begin 60 days after commencement of the field work in order to use the full 2 .5 years allowed in the permit to collect independent samples. ) We request that the formal commencement of the study be postponed until 60 days after we have received your directive to start the well installation. Pending receipt of your email or letter, we are prepared to begin according to the schedule in a revised Table 7, attached.
