(Getder-Ryan),to describe the results of groundwater monitoring that was performed at the
subject site on February 24, 1997.
During their February site visit Gettler-Ryan gauged and sampled all six site-related wells. All
groundwater samples were analyzed for the presence of TPHGas,BTEX constituents, and MTBE. The
measured direction of groundwater flow was toward the east-southeast. There were discrete peaks
measured and reported within the range of TPHGas at wells MW-2 through MW-6.However, these
detections more than likely represent interference caused by chlorinated compounds that are known to
exist in groundwater beneath the subject site. There were reportable detections of dissolved hydrocarbons
measured in groundwater at wells MW-2,MW-4,MW-6,and MW-7. Except for the reported
concentrations at well MW-7,all results were consistent with previous site measurements. The recent
detections at well MW-7 confirm those reported during the last quarterly sampling event. There were
trace levels(2.9 ppb)of MTBE detected at well MW-2. This detection was not confirmed with GC/MS
analysis.
The following monitoring schedule was proposed to your agency in a letter dated February 28, 1997. No
comment has been received on that proposal. Until notified otherwise, it will remain in effect.
- Gauge and sample wells MW-2,MW-6,and MW-7 semi-annually (1st and 4thQtrs.)
-Discontinue gauging and sampling all other wells
-Analyze all samples for BTEX and MTBE only(EPA 8020 method)
-Report semi-annually;report will not include a potentiometric surface map.
If you have any questions or comments,I can be reached at(510)842-8695.
