Information in this letter
is intended to address your concerns regarding the potential release of characteristic
waste oil tank contaminants into surrounding soil and the possible migration of said
contaminants to site groundwater.
Pursuant to our telephone conversation on November 6`h,we(PEG)feel that adequate
characterization of soil surrounding two former waste oil tanks at the site is complete
except for the vertical definition of hydrocarbons and VOCs at the initial waste oil tank,
hereafter referenced as WOT-1 (see Figure 1). Although samples collected beneath
WOT-1,located at the northeast corner of the existing station building, revealed low
levels of hydrocarbons and VOCs at the current vertical extent of investigation,no other
characteristic LUFT protocol waste ail tank constituents(i.e.,CAM 5 metals and PCBs)
were detected above respective detection limits. Although the vertical extent of
hydrocarbons and VOCs at WOT-I is not currently known, our Work Plan for Additional
Soil and Groundwater Investigation, dated September 17, 1998,presents a scope of work
to continue vertical investigation. A cross section for WOT-1 is presented in Figure 2 of
this letter to illustrate bottom sample locations and analytical results.
A second waste oil UST,hereafter referenced as WOT-2,was discovered while
upgrading the subject site. WOT-2 was found immediately south of the northeast canopy
footing(see Figure 1). Upon removal of WOT-2 and laboratory analysis of underlying
soil,no detectable concentrations of LUFT protocol waste oil constituents were
discovered to the respective detection limits. A cross section for WOT-2 is presented in
Figure 2 of this letter to illustrate sample locations and analytical results.
11315 Sunrise Gold Circle.Suite M • Rancho Cordova,Califomia 95742-6534 (916)858-2350 FAX(916)858-2355
