(CRA) on your behalf for the above-referenced site.
Based on lithological and soil/groundwater analytical data submitted for three cone penetration
test(CPT)borings and nine associated adjacent borings; and ten soil borings(B-19 through B-28)
advanced onsite to thirty feet below surface grade(bsg), CRA has recommended the following:
• Additional investigation to delineate the diesel-range hydrocarbons southeast of the
former diesel underground storage tank(UST);
• Additional investigation to delineate the diesel-range hydrocarbons northwest, west,
south,and southeast of the diesel pump station and monitoring well MW-6;
• Installation of a soil vapor extraction/air sparge (SVE/AS) system to aid in the
remediation of methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) and.other petroleum hydrocarbon
contamination, and
• Removal of tertiary-amyl methyl ether (TAME), tertiary-butyl alcohol (TBA),
1,2-dibromoethane (EDB), 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA), di-isopropyl ether (DIPE),
ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE), and total extractable petroleum hydrocarbons as motor
oil (TEPH-mo) from the analytical list for future quarterly groundwater monitoring
events.
EHD concurs with the recommendation by CRA to conduct an additional investigation to
determine the source of the diesel-range hydrocarbons near the diesel pump station and MW-6,
and to delineate the diesel-range hydrocarbon contamination in the areas proposed by CRA.
Please submit a work plan to the EHD by May 1, 2008, that will address the delineation of the
diesel=range-hydrocarbon contamination in soil and groundwater both on-,and off—site toward the
south.
