• The nitrate level in the on-site domestic well is below the MCL, despite a shallow
(50 ft.) grout seal and numerous rural residences in the area. Nitrate has been
detected at levels below the MCL in most nearby wells, according to the map
reviewed. Although one nearby well was found to contain nitrate above the limit,
the map does not include the type of well or depth to grout seal, either of which
could explain the elevated result.
The result of the nitrate loading calculation is only slightly over the MCL, close enough
that it is possible fluctuation of rainfall in coming years could allow the calculation to
pass. Based on the significant depth to water, clayey soil present, and lack of existing
nitrate exceedance in all but one nearby well, it is the professional opinion of Live Oak
that effluent from a second septic system on the subject Site is unlikely to contribute to
a problematic build-up of nitrate in the ground water.
LOGE 20-03 Page 14
