EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
All sampling tools and brass.sleeves used for sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed with clean
water after washing with a solution of Alconox.
2.3. LABORATORY ANALYSIS
Selected soil samples will be analyzed in accordance with EPA Method 8015m/5030 for total
petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g)and diesel(TPH-d) and in accordance with -
EPA Method 8020 and for volatile aromatics(benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes: BTE&X),
and in accordance with EPA Method 8260/8240 for oxygenated-volatile,organic compounds.
Laboratory reports of soil sample analyses, testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality
control (QA/QC)reports, and sample chain-of-custody documentation will be presented in a report
with the findings and recommendations.
3.0. PROCEDURES
3.L EXCAVATION OF HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED SOIL
For the excavation of impacted soil in the UST and piping areas, the following procedures will be
performed:
1. Notify the PHS-EHD at least 48 hours prior to commencement of any work. ,.
2. Excavate the'impacted soil using a backhoe or excavator. initially, we anticipate excavation
of approximately 100 to 200 cubic yards of impacted soil.
3. As excavation proceeds, monitor excavated soil for the presence of volatile organics using ;
an organic vapor meter equipped with a photo-ionization detector (111I1)). If appropriate,
segregate soil into "clean" stockpiles and -"impacted" stockpiles based upon PID
measurements and field observations.-
4.
bservations.4. Stockpile the excavated soil on plastic sheeting, pending analytical results.
5. Collect soil samples from the floor and sidewalls of the excavation. Samples will be
collected from the backhoe or excavator bucket and, preserved in pre-cleaned brass sleeves.
Sample locations will be determined by consultation with a representative of the PHS-EHD. ,
6. Cover the sample sleeve ends with Teflon sheets and plastic end cap, then seal with tape and
Advanced GCOEnvironmental;inc.
