13 December 1999
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0433
' Page 3 of-13 ;
in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System. Soil boring logs•exhibiting.soil profiles
are depicted in Appendix'A.
' 3.3. GRAB GROUND WATER SAMPLE COLLECTION
Probe borings B2, B5, B14, B17 and B18 were also sampled for ground water. A temporary, pre-
cleaned,one-inch outside diameter, 0.01 slotted well.screen was placed into the soil boring to a depth
of 20 feet bsg. After sample retrieval, the water sampler was disassembled and cleaned.New Teflon
tubing was used to collect each sample. Each ground water sample was extracted by,lowering a ..
modified Teflon bailer into the screen section of the temporary.wells. Samples were collected in
three laboratory-supplied; 40-m1 volatile organic analysis (VOA) vials containing 0.5 .ml-
hydrochloric
l•hydrochloric acid(18%)as sample preservative and in one 1-liter amber bottle, according to Standard.
Methods. The labeled vials were placed in a chilled container under ice and transported under chain-
of-custody to MAI for analysis.
3.4. LABORATORY ANALYSIS OF SOIL AND GROUND WATER SAMPLES
Ground water samples and selected soil samples were analyzed for:
' Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline and diesel (TPH-g and TPH-d) in
accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified,
volatile aromatic hydrocarbons (benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and total xylene: BTE&X)
in accordance with EPA Method 8020,
• Oxygenated fuel additives: methyl butyl ether (MTBE), tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA), di-
isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary butyl ether (ETBE) and tertiary amyl methyl ether
(TAME).in accordance with EPA Method 8260 Modified and
' Two soil samples were transported-to an independent microbiologist, Mr. A. Keith '
Kaufmann of Culver City, California, and were analyzed for physicochemical properties and
microbiological enumeration.
3.5. GROUND WATER MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION ,
On 19 and 20 August 1999, five soil borings (MW-1 through MW-5) were advanced utilizing a
hollow stem auger drill rig for the collection and analysis of soil samples and installation of ground .
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
