Mr. Marshall Cloud
August 26, 2005
Page 2
Specific Comments:
1) Page 12, section 1.4.1.3, Optional Parameters: DTSC recommends that carbon
dioxide (CO2) be identified as an optional parameter in the Natural Attenuation
investigation. The collection of CO2 is necessary to assess the performance of
biodegradation associated with each of the active treatment technologies,
including Aerobic Cometabolic Oxidation, Anaerobic Reductive Dechlorination
and Substrate Amendments, Bioremediation Technology and NA Investigation.
2) Page 27, sections 2.1 & 2.2, NA Evaluation Cone Penetrometer Testing (CPT)
Borings and Treatment Technology Evaluation CPT Borings: The report
proposes that the Central Area ground water will be the only area sampled in
each of the three impacted zones. The South Balloon and North Balloon will only
be sampled in the A and B and B and C zones, respectively. DTSC recommends
the data collection should occur in each of the three ground water zones
impacted with Volatile Organic Compounds. If ground water sampling is not
conducted from all three impacted zones, adequate justification needs to be
provided in the report.
If you have any questions regarding this letter, please contact me at (916) 255-3713.
Sincerely, n
44 4vza
Peter MacNicholl
Remedial Project Manager
Office of Military Facilities
cc: See Sharpe Distribution List.
