EXTRACTION PILOT STUDY WORK PLAN, DEFENSE DISTRIBUTION REGION WEST (DORW'),
SHARPE SITE, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
We have reviewed the Vapor Extraction Pilot Study Work Plan submitted on
28 June 1991 by the U. S. Army Toxic and Hazardous Materials Agency (USATHAMA)
and prepared by Environmental Science and Engineering. On 19 June 1991, I
discussed my major concerns with Mr. Craig MacPhee of USATHAMA. Our major
concerns revolved around the location and design of the vapor extraction and
monitor wells. These concerns as well as other comments on the Work Plan can be
found in the enclosed memorandum.
In general , we found the Work Plan to be adequate as it contained sufficient
information on the design of the pilot system. However, we are concerned that
the Plan contained inadequate rationale to support the specifics of the pilot
system design. We request that future work plans be prepared with sections
devoted to discussions on the rationale for the designs as we believe that this
will help to avoid questions.
If you have any questions, please call me at (916)361-5670.
CAMILLA WILLIAMS
Engineering Geologist
CKW:cw
Enclosure
cc: Mr. John Hamill , Environmental Protection Agency, Region IX, San Francisco
M Tracie Billington, Department of Health Services, Region 1, Sacramento
r: Fred Kaufman, Public Health Services of San Joaquin County,
Environmental Health Department, Stockton
Mr. Craig MacPhee, U.
