1. CAPTURE ZONE ANALYSIS
Capture was evaluated for both the North and South Balloon Area Groundwater
Treatment Systems. The average daily potentiometric data for the quarter was
determined by averaging a minimum of one data point per month for each well.
Plume extents (5 ppb) were drawn using the data from same quarter as
potentiometric data.
A-Zone
Capture of Plume 1 , A-Zone, in the South Balloon Area is almost complete.
The northern edge of Plume 1 and Plume 3 are not being captured by South
Balloon System. The Central Area System will include extraction well in this
area (South End of Runway). The quantity of water being pumped from A-Zone
has been going down due to the drop in water level. Extraction well A-4 was
shut down early October 1992. Based on 3-D Modeling, its not necessary.
Capture of Plume 7 and 8, A-Zone, in the North Balloon area is almost
complete. New wells NA-8, NA-9, NB-5, NC-2R, and NC-3R are operating. If
additional pumping is necessitated in the A-Zone, all wells except NA-1 have
more capacity.
B-Zone
Capture of Plum 1 , B-Zone, in the South Balloon Area is near complete.
The northern edge of Plume 1 and Plume 3 will be captured by Central Area
extraction well in this area (South End of Runway). Extraction well B-3 was
shut down early October 1992. Based on 3-D Modeling, its not necessary.
Capture of Plume 7 and 8, B-Zone, in the North Balloon area is nearly
complete. New extraction well NB-5 went into operation during the month of
April .
C-Zone
Capture of Plume 1, C-Zone, in the South Balloon Area was almost
complete. Extraction well C-3 was repaired in April. Continual pumping of
these three wells will produce a better capture zone next quarter.
Capture of Plume 7 and 8, C-Zone, in the North Balloon Area was not
complete based on water level data available. New wells NC-2R and NC-3R went
into operation during the first quarter. There is noticeable difference. when
compared to last quarter' s map. Larger pumps could be added to wells NB-1 ,
NB-2, and NB-3 which were drilled to 125 feet, 120 feet, and 121 feet,
respectively. At least one C-level monitoring well will be added on the
north eastern side of plume. DDRW believes better capture is being achieved
than indicated.
