GROUNDWATER CONTOUR MAP INFORMATION
1 . Quarterly water elevations are entered into a Symphony
spreadsheet form. The spreadsheet calculates a single sea level
water elevation for each monitoring well . A file is created from
this spreadsheet containing water elevation , an east-west
coordinate and a north-south coordinate . This file is imported
into Surfer (the groundwater contouring program) .
2 . We use Surfer (Golden Software , Inc . , Golden , Colorado)
version 4 . 15 with the following parameters :
A. During the Gridding Process :
1 . Grid lines in the X&Y dimensions= 35 . 0 .
2 . Gridding method= Kriging . ( Instead of InvDist or
MinCurv) .
3 . Search method= All . (Rather than Normal , Quadrant
or Octant) .
4 . All minimum and maximum X and Y grid values are set
to automatic . A set value is not entered .
The program now creates a regularly spaced grid for
irregularly spaced data for the base .
B . The Topo process plots the base water elevation contour
map with the following parameters :
1 . The minimum and maximum contours levels are
determined by the program_
2 . The contour interval= 0 . 5 feet .
3 . Every contour line is labeled.
4 . Hachure length= 0 . 3 .
5 . The contour lines are smoothed , with tension= 2 .
6 . The Post Block function is used to identify four
corners of the contour map to overlay onto the base map .
7 . The plot file is sent to an output . DXF file for
conversion and importing to the Generic Cadd (version 6 . 0)
program.
The two dimensional groundwater contour map can be displayed
at this time on the CRT .
Note : By varying the contour interval (item 2 . B . 2) from 0 . 5
to 0 . 1 feet , we can verify a suspected capture zone . While this
does give an indication of a capture zone , we plot the contour
maps at 0 . 5 feet intervals for both clarity and coinsistancy .
3 . Generic Cadd 6 . 0 (Autodesk , Bothell , WA) combines the base map
and the groundwater contour map into one ' D' size drawing .
