A. REMEDIAL, REMOVAL, AND INVESTIGATION ACTIVITIES
1. REMEDIAL, REMOVAL, AND INVESTIGATION ACTIVITIES: Discussion of
Analytical Results.
a. MONITORING WELLS ANALYTICAL RESULTS (See Section 3, Quality
Assurance Laboratory—Me—ports)
Sharpe sampled the majority of its monitoring wells once during
the quarter. The samples were analyzed for Halogenated Volatile Organic
Compounds by EPA Method 601. The results are tabulated in Section 2b. The 5
ppb contaminant contour is plotted on maps included in Section 2c. Analysis
of the data is also included. Quality Assurance Laboratory exhibited a high
occurrence rate of methylene chloride cross-contamination of environmental
samples.
b. POTABLE WATER WELLS ANALYTICAL RESULTS
Sharpe sampled thirty-nine (39) potable water wells: four (#1,
#3, #5, #6) on the installation and thirty-five (35) privately owned potable
water wells. The report of results is provided to the owner or leasor of the
property on which the wells reside. All samples were analyzed for
Halogenated and Aromatic Volatile Organics by EPA Method 524.2 and Arsenic by
EPA Method 206.2. The regulatory maximum contaminant level for Arsenic of 50
ug/L was not exceeded. Volatile Organic Compounds detected follow.
Address Results Contaminant MCL
11338 Harlan Road 0.23 ug/L Trichloroethene 5.0
11616 Harlan Road 0.42 ug/L Trichloroethene 5.0
1.64 ug/L 1,2 Dichloropropane 5.0
342 Roth Road 1.05 ug/L Trichloroethene 5.0
(Lifetile Corp)
427 Roth Road 0.57 ug/L Tetrachloroethene 5.0
707 Roth Road 5.30 ug/L 1 ,2 Dichloroethane 3.0
Lathrop WDP#5 0.42 ug/L Trichloroethene 5.0
As with the monitoring well samples, Quality Assurance Laboratory
exhibited a high occurrence rate of methylene chloride cross-contamination of
environmental samples.
Methylene Chloride cross contamination occurred as follows:
11338 Harlan (0.22 ug/L) , 11378 Harlan (0.91 ug/L) , 11401 Harlan (0.23 ug/L) ,
11434 Harlan (0.83 ug/L) , 11500 Harlan (0.61 ug/L) , 12644 Harlan (0.97 ug/L) ,
12796 Harlan (1.06 ug/L) , Harlan/Schilling (1.02 ug/L) , and 147 Lathrop Road
(0.99 ug/L).
