• ' r • r r • rL � r <br /> Metals Sites <br /> As stated in the 1996 ROD,the remedial action objective(RAO)for metals-contaminated soil sites is to <br /> excavate lead-and chromium-contaminated soils to eliminate the potential threat to human health and-- <br /> the environment Cleanup levels of 1,000 mg/kg for lead and 300 mg/kg for chromium were established- - <br /> to meet this objective.Additional investigation after the ROD was signed indicated that three(S-30, <br /> S-33/29,and S-36)of the five metals sites identified in the ROD did not have lead or chromium <br /> concentrations greater than the cleanup levels.Contaminated soil from the other two sites(S-3 and - <br /> S-26)was excavated and disposed of at an approved landfill in accordance with the ROD.Post— -- -- <br /> excavation soil sampling confirmed that the ROD cleanup goals were achieved.The metals sites are <br /> shown in green on the map on page 2. -- <br /> Cleanup levels established in the ROD are based on industrial land use.WCs,which are measures - <br /> that help minimize the potential for human exposure to contamination by restricting activity,use,- _ <br /> and access to properties with residual contamination,are needed at these sites.LUCs will-- <br /> be <br /> ill-be put into place at the five metals sites to permit only continued industrial use of the <br /> depot property;the LUCs do not allow for unrestricted residential use.Such land use - -- - <br /> restrictions will prohibit buildings such as daycare facilities,schools,or homes from <br /> being constructed at these sites. - <br /> The ROD Amendment will describe the process to be followed if the properly - <br /> is sold,to ensure that these LUCs are retained.It will present additional - -- <br /> controls in the form of legally enforceable restrictions and/or covenants— <br /> (where <br /> ovenants(where needed)that will be applied to the property.The proposed <br /> ROD Amendment will add LUCs to the fivemetals sites to ensure _ _-- <br /> the long-term protection of human health and comply with— <br /> appropriate <br /> ith appropriate regulations.The LUCs will be maintained _ <br /> until lead and chromium in soil are at concentrations <br /> that allow for unrestricted use of the land. <br /> COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION <br /> DDJC-Sharpe has had an active community relations/ DDJC-Sharpe provides environmental cleanup <br /> public participation program since the discovery of information through public meetings,the Administrative <br /> hazardous materials on site and continues to inform the Record(AR), announcements published in community <br /> public of ongoing environmental restoration efforts at the newspapers,and fact sheets.The AR is a library of <br /> depot. Community input on DDJC-Sharpe's environmental information related to cleanup activities at the depot, <br /> cleanup program is strongly encouraged. and DDJC-Sharpe encourages the public to access the <br /> AR to review environmental restoration documents. <br /> The remedies selected in this ROD Amendment may <br /> change based upon response to public comments, <br /> regulatory agency comments,or new information. <br /> DESK appreciates your comments on the information <br /> presented in this Proposed Plan. <br /> The AR is located at: Hours of Operation: <br /> DDJC-Tracy, Building 1 lam -3 pm Monday-Friday <br /> 25600 S.Chrisman Rd.
