Concrete will then be
poured from the top of the bentonite to the surface. The vapor well
will be fitted with a slip cap, and the entire well assembly will be
enclosed at the surface by a cast iron traffic rated vaultbox cemented
in place.
7. The wells will be installed under the supervision of qualified ESE
personnel, who may elect to change the screened intervals based on
the results of the soil borings taken from the first VEW installati9n.
The purpose of alternating the screened intervals is to monitor the
effects of vapor extraction at different depths and through different soil
types.
South Balloon Area (Soil Area 8)
1. The three VF,Ws in Soil Area 8 will be installed at intervals of 301t
along a horizontal line. The first VEW will be installed approximately
70 ft southeast of monitor well 425 (see Fig. 2-5).
' 2. The two VMWs will also be installed at intervals of 30 ft on a
90-degree radial from the VEWs (see Fig. 2-5).
3. The three VEWs will be labeled VEW 1-8, VEW 2-8, and VEW 3-8. _
The two VMWs will be labeled VMW 1 and VMW 2 (see Fig. 2-5).
' 4. Soil samples will be collected every 2.5 ft in the first boring to verify
the subsurface stratigraphy encountered in the pilot test area.
S. Based on expected subsurface stratigraphy developed during the
remedial investigation, the VEWs and VMWs will be installed as
outlined in Table 2-1 and Figs. 2-6 and 2-7.
6. All lengths of pipe, both slotted and blank, will be connected by
threaded joints. No glues or adhesives will be used.
2-10
