1.0 INTRODUCTION <br /> This Tank Removal Summary Report presents results from the underground storage tank <br /> ' (UST) removal at the Naval Communication Station (NAVCOMMSTA), Stockton, California Field <br /> activities associated with the UST removal occurred between April 2 and May 18, 1992 The <br /> ' objectives of field activities included removal of tank 81713-2, soil sampling and analysis of the soil in <br /> the excavation to determine if an unauthorized release had occurred, and tank testing of the remaining <br /> ' two tanks, 81713-1 and 81713-3 The tank designations indicate the building number followed by the <br /> tank number in accordance with the station's designations This summary report is prepared as part <br /> ' of the scope of work described in the Tank Closure Plan dated January 30, 1992, for Contract Task <br /> Order No 0162 awarded to PRC Environmental Management, Inc (PRC) under the Comprehensive <br /> ' Long-Term Environmental Action Navy (CLEAN) Central Zone Contract No N6247474-88-D-5086 <br /> ' L1 BACKGROUND <br /> NAVCOMMSTA Stockton is located on Rough and Ready Island approximately 2 miles <br /> southwest of the downtown area of Stockton (Figure 1) The Naval Communication Station (and <br /> portions of the land adjacent to the island) was developed by the U S Navy in 1945 as a major <br /> ' supply depot during World War 11 and has served as an active military installation since then In <br /> 1965, the supply depot was deactivated and control of the facilities was assigned to the Naval <br /> ' Communication Station A number of U S government agencies currently occupy the warehouse <br /> facilities located on, and adjacent to, the island <br /> Under the U S Navy's abandoned tank program, one UST (Tank 81713-2) no longer in use at <br /> ' NAVCOMMSTA Stockton was proposed for closure Tank 81713-1 and 81713-3 are currently used <br /> for storing unleaded fuel for station vehicles and have been tested for tightness, results of which are <br /> ' reported in following sections <br /> ' 1.2 REPORT ORGANIZATION <br /> ' The remainder of this report presents the results of the field activities at NAVCOMMSTA <br /> Stockton Section 2 0 presents the site description Section 3 0 describes the field activities associated <br /> TANKRMU NEW <br /> N,10162UTATRI 5/14193 1 <br />
