3.2.5 Equipment Decontamination Procedures
Hollow-stem auger flights and direct-push drilling rods will be decontaminated using a
pressure washer. Hand augers and split tube samplers will be washed using a solution of
Liqui-NoxTM and water, rinsed with potable water, sprayed with methanol or isopropanol,
and rinsed a second time with distilled/deionized water.
Before use at each location the depth to water sensor and submersible pump (if
applicable) will be washed using a solution of Liqui-NoxTM and water, rinsed with
potable water, sprayed with methanol or isopropanol, and rinsed a second time with
distilled/deionized water. Disposable polyethylene tubing and silicon tubing will be
utilized during groundwater sampling. The tubing will be discarded after each well is
sampled and replaced with new tubing.
To minimize the potential for sampler induced contamination, new gloves will be used
when obtaining depth to water measurements for each well location. In addition, the
sampler will discard the gloves used while purging the wells and replace them with new
gloves before sample collection.
3.3 Sample Management
3.3.1 Sample Containers/Sample Handling
The sample containers will be prepared and provided by the analytical laboratory.
Samples will be preserved consistent with conditions presented in Table 4-2. The type
and size of container used for each parameter and the type of preservative, if any, will be
recorded on the field sampling data form.
Sample containers will be placed in an iced cooler immediately after sample collection.
The sample containers will be kept closed, maintained under custody, and refrigerated
until analysis. Maximum holding times from the time of sample collection until sample
analysis are provided in Section 4.
3.3.2 Quality Control Sampling
QA/QC samples will consist of duplicate samples and trip blanks. QA/QC samples will
be clearly identified on the field sampling forms.
3.3.2.1 Duplicate Samples
Duplicate soil and groundwater samples will be collected at a frequency of 10% of the
total number of soil and groundwater samples collected, respectively (i.e. one duplicate
Sampling and Analysis Plan-Final 5/18/2012
3-4
