The work plan did not specify how many CPT borings to be advanced in writing. However, the
attached map indicated placement of 10 CPT borings. The proposed borings are located to the north
and east of MW-6,but do not address the area to the east of MW-5. The presence of diesel has
appeared in groundwater samples of both NfW-5 and MW-6,although the concentration is
approximately a magnitude less in MW-5 thanMW-6. Calculation of groundwater flow direction was
not included in the work plan or the accompanied Quarterly Monitoring Report(QMR)for
September 23,2003,but based on previous QMRs,groundwater flow direction is generally toward the
north. However, since some of the calculations performed by Barber indicated a potential easterly
component,San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department(EHD)recommends at least one
of the CPT boringsbe relocated to address the eastern extent of the plume east of MW-5-
2. A properly calibrated and working flame ionization detector(FID)must be provided during
implementation of the work. Based on field conditions and FID data, relocation of some of the
borings may be required to achieve the goal of defining the extent of the oundwater plume.
/ 00
DATE r "O Z BY
Cc: CRWQCB,Central Valley Region—James L.L.BartQ,RG
Cc: D.K Barber P.E.&Associates—Daniel Barber
