3.2 Brine Consideration
Complete characterization at the site has not yet been achieved The low levels of diesel
grade petroleum hydrocarbons may not pose a threat of regulatory significance
iGroundwater is suspect due to the overlapping Victor Meat contamination up gradient
The meat packing site was identified as a major source of salt brine pollution, resulting in
' closing down of the surrounding water wells The brine contamination has not been
tested in this site's investigation It may be either underlying or very close to the WO&S
site The Victor Meat Company property is within 500 feet up gradient of the WOS
Acampo Plant Site The Victor Meat MW-3A , monitors the shallow water zone (within 70
FT bgs and is within 200 yards upgradient from the WOS site The closest apparent well
' down gradient is at least 450 FT from the NE corner of the site Isoplaths developed
earlier in support of the Victor Meat effort indicate high salinity in the uppermost "Zone A"
' Elevated specific conductivity readings during Barber's sampling of MW-1 indicate
continued high salinity of the same water stratum in which the petroleum hydrocarbons
were found
During future water sampling, testing for total dissolved solids (TDS) may be employed to
further identify impact from the brine
33 Neighboring Property
The perimeter of the contamination has not been fully defined and it apparently extends
onto two neighboring parcels, to the north, an 8 36 AC parcel, APN 017-09-02, to the east
by a 14 25 AC parcel APN 017-09-35 owned by Michael and Lisa Douglas since 1998-
1999 Please reference Figure 6, "Assessor's Parcel Map"
Additional borings and/or monitoring well installation are anticipated on the neighboring
property The landowner's permission is being finalized Verbal agreement is in place
and WOS is awaiting written agreement confirmation (as of May 6, 2002)
' 3.4 Well Study
Per PHS/EHD, Appendix B of the Tri-Regional guidelines calls for a 2,000 FT well
survey required for UST site closure Construction details, pumping rates and in some
cases exact location may not be readily available Prior to expending engineering
effort at a cost to the owner, review of surrounding well information collected during the
extensive Victor Meat site remediation was carried out at the CVRWQCB's office in
3-2
