Limited Soil and Groundwater Report-05/24/99 Page 7
Western Oil&Spreading Site Project No 024 98
4.0 SCOPE OF WORK
This report represents the work performed on March 23 and 24, 1999 by Gallardo &Associates.
As proposed in Gallardo&Associates Workplan for a Limited Soil and Groundwater Investigation
dated December 22, 1998, the following actions were taken
' • Five exploratory soil borings were advanced to an average depth of approximately 40 feet bgs
at the proposed boring locations
' • 39 soil samples were collected,however,20 were selected and analyzed for MTBE, TPH-d,
TPH-k, TPH-g, and BTEX
• The soil cuttings were stored on and covered with six-mil visquene and left on-site pending
disposal by the client Mr Jeff Hopkins
• All groundwater "grab" samples were analyzed for TPH-d, TPH-g, and BTEX by EPA
Method 801518020, and the fuel Oxygenates MTBE, DIPE, ETBE, TAME, and TBA by
EPA Method 8260
• The conclusions and recommendations contained in this report were prepared by Gallardo
&Associates and are based on the field investigation and laboratory data obtained during the
idrilling and sampling of soil borings B-1 through B-5, as well as data collected from the UST
removal in 1987
5.0 SOIL BORINGS
' In March 1999, Gallardo&Associates applied for and obtained a drilling permit from San Joaquin
County Environmental Health Division (No 018672) to advance up to six exploratory soil borings
at the site On March 23 and 24, 1999, Gallardo & Associates drilled five, 40-foot below grade
surface(bgs) exploratory soil borings at the investigation site (borings B-1 through B-5) The borings
were drilled by Bay Area Exploration,Inc of Cordeha, CA, a Licensed C-57 drilling contractor using
a CME 75 drilling rig equipped with continuous-flight, six-inch diameter augers to advanced the
' exploratory soil borings
Soil borings B-2 through B-5 were sampled at approximately five-foot intervals using a 2 114-inch
' O D spht-spoon sampler containing three two-inch diameter brass tubes, while soil boring B-1 was
sampled using a five-foot long, three-mch O D spht-spoon sampler containing no brass liners
(continuous core) Soil borings B-1 through B-5 were backfilled to grade with a cement-bentonite
mix(See attached Soil Boring Logs in Appendix A).
1
