2 1.3 Proposed Excavation
Proposed excavation and remediation of the Acampo site will be in keeping with
the methodology outlined in Section 3 of this plan Proposed methodology is as follows
o Each contaminated zone will be excavated to a depth of 10FT Lateral excavation
limits will be based on olfactory and visual field analysis(i a if it can be seen or
1 smelled, and can be safely excavated, it will be)
o One sidewall sample will be collected from each of the following depths 2 FT , 5
FT , and 10 FT (or bottom of excavation) The 2FT and 5FT samples will be
analyzed for TPH (hydrocarbon screen) using EPA Method 8015, BTEXITPH9 using
EPA Method 8020/8015 The 10 FT sample will be analyzed for TPHd(hydrocarbon
screen) and BTEX One bottom sample will be collected and analyzed for TPH
(hydrocarbon screen) and BTEX
' o When the boundaries of the contaminated soil are identified, the excavation will be
backfilled with remediated or imported non-contaminated soil and compacted to
90% Proctor ti
® If the target concentrations are not met, soil will be excavated until analysis indicates
the target concentrations are met or a depth of abot 18feet (maximum depth of
excavation equipment) is reached The excavation will then be backfilled with
remediated soil
® Hydrocarbon-containing soil will be stockpiled near the excavation area for profiling
and consideration of bioremediation If soil is to be bio-remediated, remediation will
be conducted as described in Section 3 of this plan Remediation will be considered
' complete when soil target concentrations are reached and visual/olfactory field
analysis indicates hydrocarbons are non-detectable
' 2-4
1
