Box 8303
Stockton, CA 95208
RE: Gillies Trucking Co. IN REPLY REFER TO SITE CODE: 1703
3931 Newton Rd.
Stockton, CA
Review completed of: "Report of Preliminary Soil Sampling and Tank
Removal" dated September 6, 1990.
We have completed our review of the above referenced document.
The proposed work plan suggests a single monitoring well and one
soil boring to approximately 60 feet below grade. Your consultant
plans to utilize nearby private wells and local municipal
information to judge placement of the monitoring well in a
downgradient location. The data used for this placement must
include information concerning the depth to first groundwater
during wet seasons in the past 10 years, specifically 1983 and
1986.
The drilling methods discussed in the proposal are hollow stem
auger or a modified rotary/split spoon sampling system. The
modified rotary/split spoon system design and technique must be
submitted for evaluation, prior to the start of drilling. The
drilling technique selected should be one which will avoid or
minimize the introduction of fluids into the subsurface formations
being investigated. Additionally, precautions must be taken when
using drilling muds to prevent cross contamination through the
fluid introduction. Details of the drilling mud solids, which
should contain little or no polymers, should be included in your
report.
Short-screened (1-5 feet) intervals of water table elevations are
best determined utilizing piezometers or two inch diameter PVC
casing which define a plane using a three or four data point
problem solution. In the event site specific gradient cannot be
determined with the single monitoring well, additional wells will
be necessary to accomplish planar definition.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services 40
