Upgradient'nvironmental Co*ultan
March 28,2002 MAR 2 9 2002
Mr.Ken Gillies ENVIR01MVENT HEALTH
Gillies Trucking PERMIT/SERVICES
P. 0.Box 8303
OU "
Stock-ton,
kton,CAA 95208
Subject: First Quarter 2002 Monitoring Report
Gillies Trucking Yard
3931 Newton Road
Stockton,CA
Dear Mr. Gillies:
On February 22, I visited the site to find out whether monitor well GT-2 had been uncovered so
that I could schedule a regular groundwater monitoring event. In addition,I checked the depth to
groundwater in GT-10 to determine whether it would be possible to perform a groundwater
pumping test of this well during the next monitoring event.
I was only able to locate four of the seven monitor wells: GT-3, GT-5, GT-6, and GT-10. Both
GT-1 and GT-2 are buried below a thick layer of road base gravel, and I was unable to locate
them.Well GT-9,on the former Barbot property, was also buried or hidden by weeds and/or a
large pile of broken concrete and other debris. In addition, the casing(standpipe)for GT-3 had
been broken off, making it impossible to use this well to measure the groundwater elevation for
the purpose of determining the groundwater flow direction.
The depth to water in GT-10 was 57.05 feet, which is approximately 5 feet below the base of the
aquifer sand that requires testing. At this depth, there is slightly less than 3 feet of water in the
well, and it is present within the low-permeability(10-8 cm/sec)silt bed that underlies the aquifer.
In my professional opinion, this amount of water is insufficient for aquifer testing;the well
would go dry in less than 5 minutes of testing. Therefore, this test cannot be performed at this
time.
I then measured the water depth in the other two wells(GT-5 and 6)and have prepared the
enclosed groundwater elevation map using the three-point method. This method is not as
accurate as could be accomplished with more wells, but it appears that the flow direction was
northeastward.
I recommend that you instruct one of your employees to search for and locate the buried wells
and remove the covering material so that we can perform a regular monitoring/sampling in early
April. Please telephone me when this has been done, and I will place it on the schedule.
Si erely,
1 yPa v p/
, .
Victor B.
