The precise locations of the four soil samples
could not be ascertained from available data. Reportedly, these
four sanples were collected from approximately equidistant
points in the entire stockpiled soil area.
VI. FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS
Based on our site observations and our review of available
basic information and laboratory analyses, it appears that soil
samples tested contain TEPH - tested as diesel - in quantities
well above detection and above the levels normally allowed to
remain in place by regulatory agencies. Some additional
investigations of soil contamination and some form of
remediation of soils, therefore, are expected to be needed to
meet regulatory standards.
At the same time that soil remediation must be considered,
groundwater characterizations must be performed. In accordance
with the County's correspondence, the "Tri--Regional
W Re—ommendations , dated June 2, 1988 (revised May 18, 1989) , is
to be used to determine the type of site characterization, that
is to be performed. In that document, this site falls into
Section II -- Routine Tank Removal Investigation, Case #1 -
- Soil Groundwater Tnveatiaation Required.
VII. RECOXMEUDED WORKPLAN
The proposed workplan for additional subsurface
investigations consists of a single monitoring well in the
southwest side of the tank excavation (as indicated by county
maps) and a single test boring to approximately 6o feet on the
east side of the fuel island/diesel._.tank.--A_test__of__the.. on-site--—-- -- ---- -- --
-- --.-- -._-.. ---- --- --'we - -water---(from--the-.existing well) and more detailed research
5
