.� Upgradien?EnvironmentaI CAsuitants <br />• July 17,2001 <br /> Mr Ken Gillies <br /> Gillies Trucking <br /> P O Box 8303 <br /> Stockton, CA 95208 �Q <br /> ockto <br /> c_ _ - <br /> SubJect: Second Quarter 2001 Monitoring Reporter-- <br /> Gilhes Trucking Yard ry <br /> 3931 Newton Road <br /> Stockton,CA ' <br /> e E5 T <br /> Dear Mr Gilkes <br /> cn <br /> The purpose of this letter is to transmit the results of the groundwater monitoring activities that -- <br /> took place during the second calendar quarter at 3931 Newton Road Because monitoring was <br /> limited to the two domestic wells at 3931 and 3851 Newton road, we have not prepared a full <br /> monitoring report <br /> At his request, I met with Mr Jeff Wong of San Joaquin County PHS/EHD at your site on July 3 <br /> to collect a water sample from each of the domestic wells When I arrived at the site, I noted that <br /> some-of the groundwater monitoring wells had been located and the gravel had been cleared to <br /> allow access to the well, but other wells were still buried and I therefore postponed monitoring or <br /> sampling the wells until all of them have been exposed I allowed the two domestic wells to flow <br /> for approximately 15 minutes before collecting a sample from the tap in a 1-liter amber bottle <br /> The two samples were placed in a cooled ice chest and later transported to Excelchem Analytical <br /> Laboratory in Roseville They were analyzed for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons in the diesel <br /> range, and the laboratory report is attached Diesel was not detected in either sample <br /> We also reviewed the letter from Mr Wong to you, dated June 21, 2001, in which he requested <br /> that a pumping test be conducted before July 31, 2001 We have since spoken to Mr Wong and <br /> explained why such a test would not be appropriate at this time Presently, there is less than 5 <br /> feet of groundwater in the contaminated aquifer, which has a small areal extent and would <br /> rapidly go dry under pumping test conditions In recent monitoring events, we have found that <br /> the well goes dry after only a few minutes of purging, implying that an extremely slow pumping <br /> rate would be required to prevent this from happening during a pumping test Pumping at such a <br /> slow rate would not be an effective ipethod of remediating the groundwater contamination at <br /> your site, and would be a very slow process requiring several years Mr Wong has asked us to <br /> investigate alternative treatment methods prior to the meeting that he has scheduled for August <br /> Sin�'�-'et <br /> '/ <br /> Victor B Cherven <br /> President <br /> cc Jeff Wong, PHS/EHD <br /> Marty Hartzell, CVRWQCB <br /> Stockton.
