Failed to store Universal Waste batteries in a closed container and in a manner that prevents breakage <br />and release to the environment. A collection of waste alkaline and other assorted types batteries located in <br />the manufacturing area are on a small pallet. Universal Waste batteries must be placed into a closed <br />container to prevent leakage of chemicals and to prevent accidental discharges. Correct by sorting the <br />batteries into similar types and placed into a closed container. <br /># 83. Failed to label universal waste. A collection of waste alkaline, other assorted types of batteries and <br />fluorescent tubes and compact fluorescent bulbs have no identification. All universal waste must be properly <br />labeled with the following information relevant to the type of waste, eg "Universal Waste Batteries", <br />"Universal Waste fluorescent lights". Correct by identifying the type of universal waste on the container. <br /># 84. Storage of universal waste onsite > 1 year or unable to demonstrate the length of time waste has been <br />accumulated from date it became a waste. A collection of batteries and fluorescent lights have been stored <br />onsite for an undetermined amount of time. Universal waste can be demonstrated by placing an initial start <br />accumulation date on the container of when it became a waste or provide a receipt of demonstrating the <br />length of time waste accumulated onsite. Universal waste can be stored onsite for up to 1 year. Correct by <br />having the Universal Waste properly disposed at a certified Hazardous Waste disposal facility and submit a <br />copy of the disposal receipt to SJC EHD within 30 days (09/10/10). <br />Submit to SJC EHD within 30 days (09/10/10)- <br />1. one copy of the completed "Return to Compliance Certification" form <br />2. a corrective action statement for the above violations <br />3. a copy of the disposal receipt for the universal waste batteries and fluorescent lightings <br />Notes: <br /># 79. Corrected onsite: Collection of U -shape and compact fluorescent lights placed into a secured closed <br />cardboard box. Universal waste must be stored in a closed container to prevent breakage and release of <br />chemicals into the environment. <br />• Provided Small Business Hazardous Waste Disposal brochure for Universal Waste disposal <br />• Provided free SJC EHD 2010 training course schedule <br />Facility has an ink screen booth for print ink screening. When ready to dispose the booth filters, either <br />handle it as hazardous waste or make a determination of hazardous waste according to CCR, Title 22 <br />Haz Waste Regs <br />• Performed by outside service: vehicle equipment mainTenance (forklifts), powder coating auto parts <br />• No metal grinds performed onsite.
