The site area is shown in Plate
1. The site is owned by Mr. Jim Gi111ea who is also the contact
person for the purposes of this report and investigation.
The site covers an area of about 3.5 acres and measures
approximately 200 feet by 720 feet. Only one structure exists
on the propertyt the shop and office building. Site features
arm shown on the site plan, plate 2.
The site has reportedly been used only as a truck terminal
fur the loading and unloading of freight and as a small repair
shop and office for the trucking business since approximately
1973. The fuel tanks were reportedly fnstal3ed at about that
time. Freight loads are stored temporarily on the yard west of
the shop and office area. Prior to the truck terminal, the site
was apparently farm or ranch land.
A well shown in plate 2 is believed to have been there
since before the site was purchased by Mr. Jim Gillies in 1973.
No data are available for this well, but it was reportedly
deepened and/or rehabilitated in 1974 by Clark well Drilling Co.
-- Underground tank removal services were, provided by SEMco in
January 1989, and additional excavations and soil sampling and
analyses were provided in July of 1990. The removal,
destruction/disposal of two tanks was certified by SEMCO on
January 25, 1990. A copy of the certification form is shown in
Appendix A. Tank testing performed as late as 1988, according
to County records and in discussions with Mr. Jim Gillies, did
_ not reveal unacceptable leakage rates. Inventory measurements,
in a similar manner, did not apparently reveal tank or piping
problems according to the site ow ..r and the County records,
although theca were not reviewed in detail by RAI.
1500 gallon waste oil tank was pre-lent at the site until
September 1986 when it was removed by Precision Industries.
soil samples and visual inspections of the tank, according to
County and Gillies Trucking Co. records, revealed no indications
of leakage from that tank.
The 2,000 gallon and 10,000 gallon fuel tanks were removed
in January 1989 by SEMCO. After the initial tank removal
efforts, additional soils were excavated in an attempt to find
the base of the contaminated soil and to achieve ren►ediation to
the prevailing regulatory standards. An estimated 1000 to 1200
cubic yards are believed to be stockpiled at the site as shown
on Plate 2. sEHCO estimated or calculated 1417 cubic yards of
I
