The wells were purged with submersible pumps(new)or bailers(old <br /> wells),decontaminated as described above in Section A.6.1. <br /> Field parameters of pH,temperature,and electrical conductance were measured as the well was <br /> — purged until these parameters had stabilized within 10 percent of previous value,except in wells <br /> MW4 t,.iu MW8,which did not have enough water in casings to be purged more than one casing <br /> volume in a reasonable time. f <br /> All purge water was Contained in 55-gallon drums labeled with well number,date,contents,and <br /> facility identification. Teflon sampling bailers were used to collect five separate samples for <br /> presample field parameter measurements,to confirm field parameter stability and,therefore, <br /> representative aquifer samples. <br /> j A.6.4 Well Sampling <br /> All samples were collected with a Teflon bailer cleaned as discussed in Section A.6.1. The bailer <br /> was operated by hand on Teflon-coated stainless steel wire. The sampling personnel wore clean <br /> nitrile gloves during sampling operations and while handling sample bottles. <br /> The collectec'groundwater samples were emptied from the bailer with a bottom-emptying device <br /> directly into the sample bottles. The samples were collected in ether 40-ml glass VOA vials or <br /> I Teflon-lined septum caps. The sample bottles contained hydrochloric acid as preservative. The <br /> containers were filled with water free of headspace(i.e.,no air bubbles in the containers). e <br /> The containers were then labeled with the well number, date,location, sampler's initials. and <br /> preservative,and the sample Iabels were covered with clear waterproof tape. <br /> i <br /> The sample vials were placed in an iced cooler for delivery to DHS-certified Pace Laboratories <br /> for analysis. Standard chain-of-custody procedures followed. <br /> X.6.5 Blank <br /> i , <br /> j In addition to the groundwater s«mples,a trip blank and a decontamination blank were analyzed <br /> ! during each sampling round. A 40-m1 glass VOA bottle with a'?'eflon septum lid,filled with D1 <br /> 3 water at the laboratory,functioned as a trip blank. This trip blank traveled with the sample kit <br /> fram the laboratory to the facility and back to the laboratory again in the sample containing <br /> cooler. The blank was analyzed for the same parameters as the samples to indicate if the samples <br /> have been contaminated,from whatever source,during the trip from the site to the laboratory. <br /> -- A decontamination blank was prepared in the field during well sampling. After the first well is <br /> sampled,DI water was poured into the clean,rinsed sampling bailer that was to be used for <br /> water was then emptied, as a sample,into a preserved 40 <br /> sampling the next well.
