MINER, STOCKTON, CA
Having reviewed the 1988 DHS sampling report for the property and the 1991 Kaldveer
Associates report for the Caltrans right of way we make the following observations and propose
a sampling plan as outlined below:
Backeround
+ DHS personnel observed apparent soil staining, primarily in the general vicinity of the
warehouse/office building and the mechanic's shop. Some soil samples collected from
the surface at these locations contained elevated concentrations of petroleum
hydrocarbons and/or lead. A sample collected from the sump inside the warehouse
contained elevated concentrations of lead and petroleum hydrocarbons.
a Kaldveer's sampling of the Caltrans ROW indicated elevated concentrations of
petroleurn hydrocarbons (primarily oil range, TRPH) in near surface soil (1 ft depth) in
front of the mechanic's shop. Equivocal evidence of minor petroleum hydrocarbon
contamination (TRPH&TPHd) was also reported In several soil samples collected from
various locations across the ROW. TRPH was not detected in samples collected from
depths of 4.5 ft. One sample, collected in front of the mechanic's shop at a depth of 1
ft, contained elevated concentrations of lead. This also was the only sample with
detectable TEX constituents. No benzene was detected.
+ Ethylene glycol was not detected in any sample from Roy's Towing or the Caltrans
ROW. "Very low levels of methylene chloride and Freon 11 were reported in a number
of samples collected from the Caltrans ROW. The source of the methylene chloride was
most likely in the laboratory. The source of the Freon 11 ,may possibly have been the
Laboratory.
