Work Area C'.ean jLr
A careful, comt)lete cleaning of the work area is necessary to prevent suture lead
exposure for the occupants, especially ,young children. Lead dust that remains can
easilv find its way into a child's mouth.
The principle of abatement clean-uo is to control the dust by keeping it dame and
preventing it from getting dispersed into the air and environment. Only a LEPA
vacuum (special vacuum cleaner with HEPA filter) or a "wet" vacuum should be
used to clean-up lead dust. Do not sweep with a broom or use a standard vacuum to
clean up lead dust. Standard vacuum cleaners cannot trap fine lead particles.
The work area should be cleaned before and after repainting. In addition, residents
should clean with a mild solution of trisodium phosphate ("TSP) weekly to keev dust
levels down.
Clean-up Materials
• Plastic work gloves
• Svrav bottle with water
• Heavy duty plastic bags
• Single six mil bags or double four -til bags
• Cleaning solution containing TSP.
