Mr. Eric J. Holm
March 26, 1997
Page 8
plumes beneath the Site.
4. Holz has a history of using solvents including acetone, MEK, and MIK.
Therefore, DTSC requires that soil gas samples be analyzed for acetone, MEK,
and MIK, in addition to other VOCs and BTEX. Please notify your soil gas
contractor to include analysis for these specified compounds for samples
collected, and report any other chemicals detected.
5. Soil samples should be collected for analysis of metals of concern(metals
detected in BEM sampling), semi-VOCs, phenolic compounds, and TPH.
Additionally, representative soil samples should be analyzed for moisture
content, organic contents, bulk density, and porosity to determine the soil
characterization beneath the Site. The soil characterization data are to assist the
development of site-specific cleanup levels for the Site.
6. DTSC is also requiring the following additional information be provided
prior to the site visit:
(a) Copies of the wastewater sampling results for the wastewater discharged
into the City's sanitary and industrial sewer lines be provided prior to field
sampling;
(b) Soil boring logs collected by BEM; and
(c) A map showing sewer lines and floor drains connecting to the City's
sanitary and industrial sewer lines, as well as chemical pipelines located at
the Site.
In response to Holz's request for the earliest sampling as possible, DTSC
would like to arrange the site visit with you or your staff as soon as possible to
refine the soil gas sampling locations. Submittal of an addendum to incorporate
the above comments including the finalized soil gas sampling locations will be
adequate. The addendum should be submitted within 15 days, or earlier, upon
completion of the field visit. Please note that soil gas sampling locations may
subject to further changes based on field sampling results. Please coordinate with
DTSC on field sampling dates and notify DTSC five (5)days in advance of the
field sampling date.
