I f • •
Dr. John Farr
Farr Associates
June 30, 1997
Page 5
Soil samples will be analyzed for TOG, BTEX, and CAM 5 Metals to evaluate material potentially
emanating from the railroad area east of the site. The locations are shown on Figure 3.
The southern-most monitoring well will also be installed in the vicinity of building 10. The well will be
installed in the south-east corner of the property. Soil and ground water samples will be collected and
analyzed as previously stated. The location of the proposed well is shown on Figure 3.
Building l 111
Two monitoring wells will be installed in the vicinity of building 11. The purpose of these wells is to
evaluate ground water quality upgradient of the Holz facility. Soil sampling and soil and ground water
analyses will be similar to the previously mentioned wells.
Building 16
Building 16 is a former storage area. Two soil vapor probes are proposed (to a total depth of 20 feet
bsg) adjacent to the building and one hand auger boring is proposed within the building. The hand
auger location will be advanced to a depth of approximately 6 feet bsg. Soil vapor samples will be
collected and analyzed at 10 and 20 feet bsg for VOCs. Due to access restrictions, the soil sample
within the building will be collected using a hand auger and the soil sample collected from 6 feet bsg
will also be analyzed for VOCs. Sample locations are presented in Figure 3.
Building 17 Area
Two soil vapor/soil sample probes are proposed adjacent to building 17. Soil vapor samples will be
collected at 10 and 20 feet bsg and analyzed for VOCs. Soil samples collected from these depths will
also be analyzed for TOG, SVOCs,and CAM 5 Metals. The sample locations are shown on Figure 3.
Building 18
Three soil vapor probe points will be installed in/adjacent to building 18. Prior to Holz's purchase of
this property, the site was utilized as a carpet cleaning business. Soil vapor samples will be collected at
10 and 20 feet bsg and analyzed for VOCs. The sample locations are presented in Figure 3.
South Sacramento Street
Four soil vapor points are proposed along South Sacrament Street adjacent to the subsurface sewer
system. Vapor samples will be collected at six, and sixteen feet bsg and analyzed for VOCs. If
impacted soil is observed, the borings will be deepened. The locations of the proposed borings are
shown on Figure 3.
Additional soil sample and soil vapor locations have been recommended by DTSC's response dated
March 26, 1997, to Delta's work plan. Many of these locations are on property not owned by Holz, in
inaccessible areas, or designated by DTSC as areas of"migration from upgradient locations". Since no
on-site source(s) have been identified at this time, the installation of borings or soil vapor borings
upgradient or downgradient of unidentified source areas is premature. If potential source areas are
identified in the field, additional sampling may be required.
