Supplemental Investigation Report,Problem Assessment Report and Work Plan
Cleanup and Abatement Order No 5-00-707 _ EAI Proiect No 1232
A Mini Rae photoionization detector (PID), or equivalent instrument, will be used on the soil
sample contained in the second tube from the bottom of the shoe at each sampling interval
within the borings, to determine if volatile hydrocarbon vapors are emanating directly from the
soil Each sample will be placed in an airtight "Ziploc" plastic bag The samples will be
allowed to sit for a minimum of five minutes, and then the headspace in the bags will be
analyzed using the PID The results of this field-testing will be recorded on the boring logs
5 12 Ground Water Monitoring Wells
Each boring will be converted into a four-inch inside diameter flush-threaded Schedule 40
polyvinyl chloride (PVC) ground water monitoring well All well casing materials will be
steam cleaned prior to installation The shallow wells will terminate at 50 feet bgs, and will be
slotted between 30 and 50 feet bgs The deep wells will terminate at 70 feet bgs, and will be
slotted between 50 and 70 feet bgs The annular space between the borehole wall and well
casing will be backfilled using grade #3 Monterey sand to approximately one foot above the
slotted section A surge block will be used to settle the sand pack and partially develop the
well An approximate three-foot bentonite seal will be placed on the sand pack and the boring
will be grouted to the surface using and cement/bentonite grout, and a flush mounted traffic
grate will be placed over the well
Development
The wells will be allowed to set from construction activities for at least 48 hours, prior to
development The wells will be developed until the water is relatively free of settleable solids
Surveying
To establish an elevation for each well, all well casing elevations will be surveyed to a
benchmark or other point of fixed elevation under the supervision of a registered civil engineer
or registered surveyor
Sampling
Ground water samples will be collected from all wells for analytical testing Prior to
completing any purging or sampling activities, depth measurements to fluid levels in each well
will be obtained using an interface probe accurate to 0 01 foot
Prior to collecting ground water samples from the wells for analytical testing, the wells will be
purged of three to four well casing volumes of water using a down-hole pump Temperature,
conductivity, turbidity and pH readings will be recorded to evaluate the effectiveness of
purging activities The samples will be collected from lust below the water surface using
disposable bottom bailers equipped with volatile organic compound (VOC) sampling tips Use
of these bailers precludes the potential for cross-contamination
HS 11321 ERW_WP -14-
FNVIRONMENTi4t AUDIT', INC.,
