Remed,ation Pl,,n
Cleanup and Abatement Order No 5-00-707 BAl Project No 1232
60 SYSTEMS DESCRIPTION
61 Wards Remediation System
The remediation system on the Wards site was reactivated on June 21, 2001, after completing
the following tasks
• Installation of an electrical meter inside the compound
a Changing oil and checking rotation of the blower and the compressor with no load
• Purging wells with compressed air
• Fixing wellheads VEW-3 and VEW-4
0 Restarting the thermal oxidizer and operation for 24 hours
• Restarting the air sparging compressor,
0 Taking field readings
• Obtaining three soil vapor samples (two from the oxidizer inlet and one from the stack)
for TPH and BTEX analysis The results of this testing will be reported under separate
cover
62 Underground Piping to Unocal Site
The 3-inch diameter Schedule 40 PVC vapor extraction line, and 2-inch diameter Schedule 80
air sparging line will be installed in and 18-inch deep trench (see Figure 14)
63 Biospargmg at RIW Site
Wells MW-21D, MW-22D, MW-24S, and AS-27 will be connected to a air compressor of
approximately 20 scfm, with a discharge pressure of 30 psig The compressor will include a
timer to allow for operation in a "pulse" mode The air sparing piping will be installed in a
trench and constructed of the same materials as described in Section 6 2 (see Figure 14)
64 Wellhead Completion
Existing well boxes on the wells to be used for remediation will be replaced with 18-inch
diameter boxes The vapor extraction and air sparging lines will be connected to the
remediation wells in a manner allowing use of these wells for ground water monitoring (see
Figure 14) Each well will be provided with a 2-inch diameter cut-off valve to take a well off-
line, if required Vapor extraction wells will be provided with a sample port to obtain field
;icadings and to collect vapor samples to assess ttie effectiveness of remediation efforts
RS 1232P RAP ADD -9-
EN VIR ONME N TA L A UDIT,INS'e
