07 April 1997
AGE-NC-95-0103
six IAS injection points around the existing IAS well. Proposed well locations are illustrated on
Figure 2.
The monitoring well and SVE well will be installed using a truck-mounted drill rig and hollow stem
augers. Soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals and preserved for possible analysis. The
IAS points will be installed using a van-mounted Geoprobe probing unit. Soil samples will not be
collected during probing.
2.2. EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
All augers and soil probe rods will be steam-cleaned or thoroughly washed with a solution of
Alconox, and triple rinsed with clean water prior to advancement. Furthermore, all sampling tools
will be washed with a solution of Alconox, and triple rinsed with clean water prior to sample
collection.
2.3. LABORATORY ANALYSIS
Selected soil samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbon quantified as gasoline(TPF-1-
g), volatile aromatics (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes: BTE&X) and methyl-tertiary
butyl ether(MTBE) in accordance with EPA methods 8015m and 8020/602. Laboratory reports of
both soil and ground water analysis, testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality control
(QA/QC) reports and sample chain-of-custody documentation will be presented in a report with the
findings and recommendations.
3.0. PROCEDURES
3.1. DRILLING AND SAMPLING
The following procedures will be performed for the installation of six sparging points and additional
wells:
1. Notify the PHS-EHD at least 48 hours prior to the commencement of any work.
2. Advance two soil borings using a truck-mounted drill rig equipped with eight-inch, hollow-
stem augers. The boring for the installation of the ground water monitoring well shall be
advanced to a depth of approximately 30 feet. The boring for the installation of the soil vapor
extraction well shall be advanced to a depth of approximately 15 feet.
