FR n
August 7, 1987
Project 195-1.1
to drilling. Soil samples will be taken using a modified California sampler
and 2 inch diEwieter bras., liners at cne foot below gro,uui surface and then
at rive foot intervals until ground water is encountered, All cuttings from
the boreholes will be placed in 55-gallon drums and will remain on site
until the analytical results are received. We anticipate ground water to be
encountered at approximately a f.et below ground surface. The borings will
ba advanced approximately ten feet into the aquifer. 7fle monitoring wells
will be constructed using 2 inch diameter PVC monitoring casing, the lower
ten feet of which will be factor;( slotted (slot size 0.02 incl%es). The
annular space around the perforated interval will be backfilled with a
coarse sand filter pack. One foot of bentonite will be placed on top of the
sand, and the remaining annular space to ground surface will be backfilled.
with cement grout. A locking ste!_1 vault will be set in each surface seal
to prevent imauthorized accass to the wells.
The monitoring wells will be developed and sampled by California Water Labs
of Modesto using a down-hole positive displacement bladder pump. At least
five well volumes will be removed from each well prior to sampling. A
shallow ground water sample will be obt--,tined from each well and transported
to the lab in a refrigerated container under appropriate chain of cvato:y
documents. The samples will be'arslyzed for volatile organic constituents
using EPA Test Method.601/602 and for gasoline or diesel product. Soil
s-nmp]as will probably not be analyzed urless evidenee of contamination is . .
seem during field oterations.
There is a possibility than the monitoring wells will be adopted into a
monitoring program for the underground tanks. However$ in the-event that
the mc:atoring wells are no longer required, we would.propose that they be
abane,6ned by re-drillirZ the.holes, removing the casings and all
con:itruetion materiais, and grouting Idle holes back to ground surface.using
a tremie-pipe.
We hope this information is adequate for the permit application }process." .If
you have any questions or require additional information please call. We
Would like to perform the field work on.,Wednesday, August 12th, and Mould
greatl7 apprwLiat.e $ray help you can give us in meeting our schedule.
Sincerely
BETA ASSOCIATES
Andrew L. Wright
Project Manager- -
gUav4sc 'ciates
s
