Water Work
Groundwater SamE1ina Protocol
Groundwater monitoring wells will be developed within 48
completion. Approximately 10 times the volume of water hours
the
rs of
casing will be withdrawn, if possible. If the aquifer is slow to
recharge, development will continue until recharge is too slow to
practically continue. All withdrawn groundwater will be stored
on-site in covered 55 gallon waste drums, unless permission is
granted by the appropriate regulatory agencies to discharge the
Pumped groundwater to the ground surface.
Prior to arriving at the site, all sampling equipment will be
washed with laboratory grade detergent, and rinsed twice with tap
water and once with deionixed water, The sample washing
procedure will be carried out on-site before sampling othe
monitoring wells in cases where more than one monitoring well is
to be sampled.
Immediately '
the well willberecorded. Thehthicknessdepth oOfaproduct ter wonletop of
the groundwater, if present, will be measured using an interface
probe. The procedure for conducting these monitorings are
presented in the Groundwater Monitoring Protocol attachment.
Approximatelywill be awour times the volume of water in the well casing
sem lin byPumpingor hand bailing immediately prior to
P g• If the aquifer is slow to recharge, a smaller amount
Of groundwater will be withdrawn in order to leave a sufficient
volume of water in the well to sample.
The groundwater sample will be collected by lowering a Teflon
sampler into the monitoring well and immediately transferring the
sample into a 40 ml volatile organic analysis (VOA) container.
ad The sample container will be filled completely so that no head
space remains in the container. Duplicate samples
collected from each well sampled. will be
ImmediatelY followingsample p
le collection, the samples will be
labeled and stored in an ice chest containing "blue ice". The
labels will contain the following information: date, time,
project ID, 'sample ID, name of sampler and type of analysis. All
samples will be transported under chain of custody protocol to a
state certified laboratory.
o-reduce thN potential of cross-contamination, the wells will be
sampled in order of increasing contamination based on previous
laboratory analysis, if available, or by field evidence of
ti visual/olfactory indications of contamination. In addition,
latex gloves worn by the sampler and the nylon cord used to lower
the teflon sampler will be replaced between each well sampling.
t
