Published by Articulate® Storyline 4 4/27/18
1.4 Program Importance

Notes:
Why is the Hazardous Waste Program so important?
• The Hazardous Waste Program is important so that we comply with environmental laws to keep associates, customers,
and neighbors safe, and to protect the environment.
• Under environmental laws, when certain items legally become a waste because they cannot be sold or returned to the
distribution center or vendor, those items must be properly disposed of by the store as a waste.
• Some items we might legally throw in the trash at home are prohibited from being disposed of in the trash by a
business.
• The Front End and Pharmacy may generate items that can become regulated as hazardous waste. These items cannot
be disposed of in the trash, dumpster, sinks, toilets, or down the drain. They must be disposed of using Rite Aid’s
Hazardous Waste Program.
• Every associate is responsible for following Rite Aid’s Hazardous Waste Returns Policy and the Hazardous Materials
Policy, which can be found on the store portal.
Hazardous waste can never be returned to any distribution center.
