ry
30 August 2004
. AGE-NC Project No 99-0592
IPage 5of13
2 4 2 Preliminary Soil and Ground Water Assessment
In June 1999, soil and ground water assessment activities were conducted at the site A total of five
soil borings were completed, grab ground water and soil samples were collected for analysis, and one '
monitoring well (B1/MW-1) was installed,to 64 feet bsg (Figure 2) Soil boring logs are presented 5
in Appendix A y3a
TPH-g was detected in soil sample B1-40' at a concentration of 1 6 mg/kg Additionally, BTEX/ o 0
compounds were detected in sample B1-40 at concentrations as high as 0 20 mg/kg The fuel 1 ya
I oxygenate MTBE was detected at concentrations of 3,400 micrograms per kilogram (ug/kg)and 67
ug/kg in samples B 1-30'and B2-30',respectively TPH-d and TPH-motor oil(mo)were not detected
in the soil samples analyzed A total of three grab ground water samples were submitted for analysis
TPH-g was detected in the ground water sample collected from boring B1, at a concentration of
2,400 micrograms per liter (ug/1) TPH-g was not detected in the grab ground water samples
collected from borings B2 and B5 BTEX compounds were detected in grab ground water samples
collected from B1 and B2 at concentrations as high as 170 ugll and 17 ug/l, respectively BTEX
compounds were not detected in sample B5-W Analytical results of the soil and water samples
collected during June 1999 are displayed in Tables 5 and 6 4Y tle
During the period from ie 1999 through September 2000, four ground water sampling events of
monitoring well MW-1 were conducted at the site During each quarter, laboratory analysis of the
ground water sample collected from monitoring well MW-1 detected concentrations of TPH-g and
MTBE Tertiary- butanol (TBA) and BTEX components were detected at relatively low
concentrations for at least two of the four sampling events ,
' 2 4 3 Site Characterization
On 27 and 28 September 2001, three soil borings were advanced at the site Pilot borings MW-2,
' MW-3 and MW-4 were completed as ground water monitoring wells with a screen interval from
55 feet to 75 feet bsg Soil in the area of borings MW-2, MW-3 and MW-4 were not impacted by
petroleum hydrocarbons or fuel oxygenating compounds Analytical results of the soil samples
' collected during September 2001 are displayed in Table 5 Ground water sampling has shown that
none of the target analytes were detected in samples collected from MW-2, MW-3, MW-4 and
domestic well DW-1 Analytical results of the ground water samples collected are displayed in
' Tables 1 and 2 GeoTracker confirmation pages of the submitted laboratory electronic deliverable
format (EDF) files are included in Appendix B Soil boring logs with well construction details are
included in Appendix A Figure 3 shows the lateral extent of soil and ground water contamination
IFigures 4 through 9 show cross-sectional views and the extent of soil and ground water
contamination along the lines of section A-A', B-B' and C-C', as shown in Figure 2
y Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
1
