•
The Leak Alert System
For the operator of fuel, oil and
chemical storage facilities, the LeakAlert
family of state-of-the-art electronic sys-
tems and components offers a reliable
and economical means of detecting leak-
age of hazardous liquids and gases.
On activation by remote sensors, the
Leak Alert system provides both audible
and visual alarms, as well as an auxiliary
output capable of driving a remote alarm,
phone dialer, or pump shutdown. Sen-
sors available include a thermal element
capable of detecting the presence of any
liquid, and a metal -oxide -semiconductor
(MOS) sensor that recognizes the pre-
sence of most combustible and organic
gases.
Depending on application capacity
requirement the Leak Alert con-
figurations offer a choice ofone, two, four,
eight or sixteen channels. Moreover, with
several Leak Alert models, each channel
can be used to simultaneously monitor
both liquid and gas leakages.
The expanding Leak Alert family
also includes two new compact probe
systems packaged in explosion -proof
enclosures for underground or other-
wise hazardous locations, and two low-
cost alarm panels suitable for remote
alarm indications.
Important System Features
Each Leak Alert system
offers numerous features
normally available only on
more expensive systems.
These include:
❑ No moving parts;
non -corrosive sensor
materials for long
service life.
❑ Compact sensing
probes with flexible
cables; operate in
double -walled steel
or FRP tanks, wet or
vadose wells.
❑ Simple installation
and maintenance;
probes easily removed
for inspection or
calibration.
❑ Many models to
choose from for vari-
ous field applications.
❑ Field adjustable alarm
set point for back-
ground vapor screen-
ing.
❑ Optional analog out-
put for recording or
control instrumenta-
tion.
❑ Packaging in NEMA
type 4 enclosures (or
explosion -proof enclo-
sure).
❑ Models LA -01 and
LA -02 are UL -listed
systems.
❑ Models LA -04 and
LA -08 are UL -listed
systems.
El
E
0
USD Family of Reliable Leak Detection Equipment
One- & Two -Channel Systems
For the customer having only
one or two tanks (or wells) to mon-
itor, USD offers Leak Alert systems
LA -01 and LA -02, housed inside
NEMA type 4 enclosures.
The Model LA -01 single -
channel system is used with either
a vapor -sensing probe (LAVS-1) or
a liquid -sensing probe (LALS-1).
The device is equipped with one
LED alarm indicator, an audio
alarm, and one set of SPDT relay
contacts. Also built into the unit
are pushbutton alarm circuit test
Four- & Eight -Channel Systems
The Model LA -04 and LA -08
Leak Alert systems are designed
specifically to meet the require-
ments of underground storage tank
users. Each system uses a building-
block configuration to provide max-
imum flexibility for future expansion.
Model LA -04 can be used to activate
up to four independent channels,
while the LA -08 can be used for up
to eight channels. (Note: A Model
LA -16 which provides up to sixteen
channels is also available on spe-
cial order.) Each channel can mon-
itor independently and simulta-
neously one liquid sensor and one
vapor sensor.
Both the LA -04 and LA -08 use
NEMA type 4 enclosures to house
the electronic modules. Each unit is
equipped with a red incandescent
alarm indicator, an audible alarm,
and one set of SPDT master relay
contacts. In addition, each channel
also provides two individual red
LED's for liquid and vapor alarm
indications, and one green LED for
power -on indication.
switches, and a buzzer silencer
switch.
The Model LA -02 is a dual -
channel system to be used for
monitoring any two probes -- both
liquid sensors, both vapor sen-
sors, or one of each. The unit is
equipped with one audible alarm,
and two independent LED's to
indicate alarm status of each
channel. The system also includes
two alarm circuit test switches, one
buzzer silence switch, and one set
of SPDT relay contacts.
NEMA TYPE 4
ENCLOSURE
musro
POWER ON
INDICATORS
(GREEN LEDS)
ALARM CIRCUIT
TEST SWITCHES
(LIQUID & VAPOR)
_IQUID
)ETECTION
NDICATORS
RED LEDS)
JAPOR
)ETECTION
NDICATORS
RED LEDS)
iED ALARM
AMP
YARNING
3UZZER
M SILENCE
'aH
•
State -of -the -Art Systems & Components
Neva
Single -Channel Compact Probes
Offered also are two single -channel
compact probes, Models LAV -100 and
LAL -100. Designed for cost-effective
underground tank monitoring applications,
each unit is packaged in an explosion -
proof enclosure Class 1, Group C & D and
Class 11, Group E, F & G
applications.
The LAV -100 is designed for
vapor detection such as vadose
zone monitoring; the L.AL-100 is
designed for liquid detection.
Each unit is isolated from the
remote sensor by an intrinsically
safe Zener safety barrier. Each unit
includes a built-in LED alarm indi-
cator and a set of SPDT relay con-
tacts. The LAV -100 is equipped
with a field -adjustable alarm level
trimpot for background contamina-
tion screening, and an analog output
for recording or instrumentation.
In case of a leak, the SPDT relay con-
tacts can be used to shut off a pump or
valve or interface with a remote alarm
enunciator such as USD's AP -01 or AP -04
alarm panels.
Sensing Probes & Packages
LAVS-1
MOS -type vapor -sensing probe
with 10 -foot cable.
