ARCADIS
Infrastructure, environment, facilities
ARCADIS G&M,Inc.
Mr. Perry Myers 1670 Corporate Circle
Department of Toxic Substances Control Suite 200
8800 Cal Center Drive Petaluma
Sacramento, CA 95826-3200 California 94954
Tel 707.776.0865
Fax 707.776.0850
Subject:
Additional Groundwater Investigation www.arcadis-us.com
Tracy, CA—Former UPRR Tracy VCA, Tracy, California
Dear Mr. Myers: ENVIRONMENT
ARCADIS is submitting this work plan Grab Groundwater Sampling and Monitoring
Well Installation, UPRR Tracy VCA, Tracy, California on behalf of Union Pacific
Railroad (UPRR). Investigation and remediation work are being conducted under a
Date:
Voluntary Cleanup Agreement with the California Department of Toxic Substances 11 July 2008
(DTSC), as signed on June 23, 2005. ARCADIS is providing oversight of soil
excavation activities in Operable Units OU-3 and OU-4. The results of pre-and post- contact:
excavation soil sampling and analysis are showing poor correlation between total and Scott Davis
soluble lead. ARCADIS proposes collection of shallow groundwater samples from
OU-3 and OU-4 to assess whether lead has leached from the OU-3 and OU-4 vadose Phone:
zone soils into the shallow groundwater and excavation activities have reached limits 707.776.0865
that are protective of both human health and groundwater. Summarized below are the Email:
proposed groundwater investigation procedures. scott.davis@arcadis-us.com
Proposed Field Investigation our ref:
RC000721.0001.0014
One GeoProbe®will be advanced in Operable Unit(OU) 3 and three GeoProbes®will
be advanced in OU-4 as shown on Figure 1. The locations of the GeoProbes®were
chosen to provide sufficient spatial coverage of the two OUs. The GeoProbes®will be
advanced in accordance with the Sampling and Analyses Plan Former Tracy Railyard,
Tracy California which is included as Appendix A in the Remedial Investigation Work
Plan Former Tracy Railyard, (Kennedy/Jenks,August 23, 2005). Prior to beginning
field activities all necessary permits will be obtained from San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department and subsurface utility locating will be completed.
The GeoProbes®will be advanced approximately five feet beneath the encounter of
first groundwater(approximately 10 to 15 feet below ground surface [bgs]). A
temporary well will be placed in the open borehole to allow formation water to enter
into the well screen. The temporary well will be a pre-packed (with silica sand)1/4
polyvinyl chloride(PVC)well with five feet of screen. Samples will be collected from
the temporary wells using a peristaltic pump and dedicated tubing.
Imagine the result
