Kennedy/Jenks Consultants
Section 3: Field Activities
3.1 Soil Sampling & Analysis
Soil sampling and analysis procedures and methods are fully documented in the SAP prepared
for the Railyard (Appendix A). The objectives of the SAP are to:
• Provide an overview of the remedial investigation to be undertaken and the types of
samples to be collected.
• Provide clear and sufficient detail for implementing proven and reliable field sampling
activities.
• Describe the standard methods to be used for handling and testing of samples, from the
point of collection to laboratory testing. The SAP includes analyte and media-specific
laboratory test methods with the corresponding numerical reporting values useful for
evaluating the goals of the remedial investigation.
The SAP also includes specific field preparation steps will be completed, including utility
clearance for all boring locations and fiber optic notification.
3.2 Laboratory Program
Soil and groundwater samples will be submitted to Severn-Trent Laboratory, Pleasanton,
California (STL) (State Certification No. 2496)for laboratory analysis by the methods indicated
in Tables 1 and 2. A list of the analytical methods and detection limits are provided in the QAPP
(Appendix B).
Soil samples will be collected and contained for shipment to the laboratory as described in
Section 5 of the SAP. Table 2 lists the size and type of laboratory-provided containers required
for collection of groundwater samples, preservation required, and analysis holding time.
3.3 Health & Safety Plan
In accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and California
Occupation Safety and Health Act (Cal OSHA) standards (§CCR 5192), a site-specific HASP
has been prepared for the proposed subsurface characterization activities prior to
implementation_ It establishes general health and safety protocols to be used by Kennedy/Jenks
personnel during boring and sampling activities to reduce the possibility of injury and exposure
to potentially hazardous materials. The HASP is provided in Appendix C.
Remedial Investigation Work Plan Page 11
Former Tracy Railyard, Tracy, California
g:Gs-groupLadrynWb10510565777.03_upnl0g-repatslwork planVi finaA*xtda
