The Site is the former Southern Pacific
Transportation Company Tracy Railyard located at 780 E. Sixth Street in Tracy,
California. The Site, which is owned by Union Pacific Railroad, is bounded by Sixth
Street to the north and MacArthur Drive to the east. Central Valley Avenue separates
the entire site into two portions. Areas adjacent to the Site are a mix of commercial and
residential development. The 56-acre Site was formerly a Southern Pacific
maintenance facility that was decommissioned in the 1940's, and subsequently
functioned as a rail welding facility. All operations have since ceased at the Site and it
currently sits vacant.
The site has been proposed to be divided into five operable units (OUs). The planned
subsurface investigation varies depending on past activities at each OU, as well as
current and anticipated future land uses. Soil samples will be collected in all OUs and
groundwater samples collected in OU-2 and OU-5 will be collected during the remedial
investigation phase.
Under the terms of the Voluntary Cleanup Agreement (docket #HSA-A 04/05-188) for
DTSC oversight, Union Pacific Railroad has submitted a draft work plan to define the
nature, source, and extent of contaminants_ DTSC received a Remedial Investigation
Work Plan and addendum dated 8/23/05 and 10/27/05 prepared by Kennedy/Jenks
Consultants for characterization of the Union Pacific Former Tracy Railyard. DTSC had
reviewed and issued comments via letter dated October 24, 2005, requesting revisions
to the work plan, primarily to update the Health and Safety plan.
® Printed on Recycled Paper
