PHS/EHD has the following
comments for your consideration.
The report included the results of groundwater samples collected on August 22, 1996. Please
provide PHS/EHD notice at least two working days prior to initiating any field activities, so that
inspections can be scheduled. As you are aware, PHS/EHD makes periodic inspections of
sampling events, but cannot provide inspections of each sampling event. Therefore, PHS/EHD
reviews the sample field data sheets that should be included with the quarterly reports. Field
notes were not included within this report. Please submit field notes from the August 22,
1996 sampling event and from the fourth quarter sampling event within the next quarterly
report.
PHS/EHD requested that a work plan be submitted within the third quarterly report to evaluate
remedial alternatives for the soil and groundwater which has been evidenced. A work plan
was not included. Please note the following particular site conditions: the three existing
monitoring wells are screened to 18 or 20 feet below ground surface; the groundwater
sample which was collected below 20 feet from boring SBA documented groundwater
contamination of 26,000ug/I TPH-gasoline and 530 ug/l benzene; and soil contamination was
evidenced to 33 feet in SBA2 with the highest soil contamination detected at 16 feet with
5,500 mg/kg TPH-gasoline and 22 mg/kg benzene. Please submit a work plan to continue the
remedial investigation with the fourth quarterly report due December 30, 1996.
If you have any questions or to schedule an inspection, please contact me at (209)468-0337.
Donna Heran, RENS, Director
/Environmental Health Division
o, REMary Meays, Seno EHS Ma
Site Mitigation Unit Supervisor
MM126500.NOW
cc: Elizabeth Thayer, CVRWCQB
Ismael Jacabo, Lockwood, SWRCB
Steven Osborn, Fugro West
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
