Results Report - Soil and Ground Water Investigation
March 1996 (9647-0011)
approved 55-gallon drums and, upon receipt of ground water sample analysis results, will be
disposed of in accordance with State and Federal regulations Monitoring well development
' Information is included as Appendix C, Field Documentation
Monitoring Well Sampling On February 13, 1996, Fugro purged approximately three
' casing volumes of ground water from each groundwater monitoring well using a new disposal
bailer for each well Following purging of the wells, Fugro collected ground water samples,
using a new two-tech-diameter disposable bailer for each well Ground water samples from each
' well were transferred Into three VOA-vials for chemical analysis The samples were transported
to PACE Inc , and chain-of-custody forms were used to document sample collection and handling
procedures Ground water samples were analyzed for TPH-g by EPA Method 8015M and BTEX
' by EPA Method 8020
Ground Water Level Survey Top of casing elevations at each well location were
' surveyed and referenced to an arbitrary benchmark by Fugro personnel The corresponding
ground water surface elevations for each monitoring well were determined by measuring the
distance from the top of the well casings (known elevation) to the ground water Fugro used the
' survey data to determine the Inferred hydrogeologic flow direction and gradient at the site
All development, purging and sampling equipment was decontaminated prior to first use
and between sampling locations, as previously described, to minimize Incidental and cross
contamination of sampling devices Soil cuttings, development water, purge water, and rinsate
water were containerized onsite in DOT-approved 55-gallon drums pending analytical results
' FINDINGS
' Earth Matenals
' Earth materials encountered from grade surface to a depth of 33 5 feet bgs generally
consisted of silty clay (CL), silty sand (SM), and clay (CL) Refer to the Log of Drill Holes
located in Appendix A
' Soil Assessment
Analytical results of collected soil samples are summarized in Table 3, Analytical Results
Soil, and the Report of Laboratory Analysis is presented in Appendix B TPH-g was detected
1n soil sample SB-A2 @ 16' at 5,500 parts per million (ppm) and in soil sample SB-A2 @ 21'
at 420 ppm Benzene was detected in soil sample SB-A2 @ 16' at 2,200 parts per billion (ppb)
and in soil sample SB-A2 @ 21' at 1,600 ppb Soil boring SB-A2 was advanced within the
former UST pit location These soil samples were collected below the water table, which was
encountered at five feet bgs during drilling
96470411396 3
