O. Box 3327
Modesto, CA 95353
Re: Tri-Valley Growers, Plant T
Site Assessment, Monitoring Well Permitting
26200 Nowell Rd-Thornton, California
Dear Mr. Quijano:
We are sending you this letter regarding our telephone conversation of July 28, 1987,
concerning the above referenced facility. The following discussion concerns the San
Joaquin Local Health District's (SJLHD) memo to Exceltech dated July 20, 1987.
This memo contained changes and/or clarifications be made to Exceltech's proposal
for a site assessment at the Tri-Valley Growers' facility in Thornton.
Exceltech's responses to the SJLHD are as follows:
1. Soil and groundwater samples will be analyzed for total extractable hydrocarbons
(diesel fuel) in addition to BTX and total volatile hydrocarbons.
2. Groundwater samples will be analyzed for organic lead using State Department of
Health Services Methods in addition to the above analyses.
3. Monitoring wells will be located so that the on-site groundwater gradient can be
determined and at least one well will be down-gradient.
4. It has been requested by the San Joaquin Local Health District that all domestic
water supply wells within one-quarter mile of the Tri-Valley Growers' site be
identified and located. It is Exceltech's understanding that the SJLHD will provide
assistance in this process by providing access to well records and files. The files must
be reviewed by our field geologist so that the site proximity to nearby wells enables
choice of the nearest well to be sampled prior to field work.
Since sampling is required by the SJLHD, we understand that the following is
needed. Sampling will proceed only with permission from the individual property owners.
Well selection for sampling will be made in the field by the Exceltech geologist who
will choose the wells nearest the site in the apparent down gradient direction. It is our
understanding that a SJLHD representative must be present to assist when the wells are
