' Site Background Information <br /> . � OI,# <br /> ' Ripon Farm Service <br /> 22871 South Highway 99 Ripon, California <br /> ' BACKGROUND <br /> t The site is located in a flat industrial/commercial area in northern Ripon, south of Jack Tone Road <br /> (Figure 1) The site is currently operated by Ripon Farm Service (RFS), a company that stores, <br /> batches,and delivers fertilizers in bulk and diluted forms The eastern portion of the site is covered <br /> ' with dirt and gravel and consists of a wash-rack containment area with two concrete holding ponds <br /> and two storage buildings (Figure 2), the central portion is paved with asphalt and concrete and <br /> consists ofbulk fertilizer preparation in containment areas and storage buildings,the western portion <br /> ' is covered with compacted gravel and asphalt and consists of a storage building/office,truck scale, <br /> and a former automotive shop Jimco Truck Stop is located immediately north of the site <br /> ' A petroleum-hydrocarbon release from former, leaking underground storage tanks (USTs) at the pry <br /> northwestern portion of the site is currently under assessment and remediation,utilizing five grot[Q' q <br /> water monitoring wells and an assortment of remediation wells Remediation by soil vapor extraction /0 o <br /> ' and air-sparging techniques have mitigated a significant portion of the dissolved hydrocarbon plume <br /> under the western portion of the RFS site <br /> lie REGIONAL GEOLOGIC/HYDROGE L I <br /> O OG C SETTING <br /> ' The site is situated within the Great Valley Geomorphic Province of California, a large, elongate <br /> northwest tending, asymmetric structural trough The Great Valley Province has been filled with <br /> ' thick sequences of sediment ranging in age from Jurassic to Recent, creating a nearly flat-lying <br /> alluvial plain extending from the Tehachapi Mountains in the south to the Klamath Mountains in the <br /> north The western and eastern boundaries of this province are comprised of the California Coast <br /> ' Range and the Sierra Nevada,respectively Rocks composing the basement complex of the province <br /> have not been completely defined but are believed to be of metamorphic and igneous origin The <br /> Great Valley Province has been subdivided into two major divisions identified as the Sacramento <br /> ' and San Joaquin Valleys <br /> The Modesto, Riverbank and Turlock Lake Formations and overlying Recent alluvium are the <br /> ' principal sources of domestic ground water in the 13,500-square mile San Joaquin Valley Ground <br /> Water Basin (Basin 5-22) This basin is drained primarily by the San Joaquin River The closest <br /> surface water feature to the site is the Stanislaus River, located approximately 9,000 feet south of <br /> ' the site The river is used primarily for domestic and agricultural uses and recreational boating <br /> Ground water at the site is currently encountered at a depth of approximately 26 feet below surface <br /> grade(bsg), and typically has a northerly flow direction Ground water has occurred at a level high <br /> ' of 15 feet bsg <br /> Advanced GeoEnvironmentai,Inc <br />
