Appendix A <br /> Site Background Information <br /> RIPON FARM SERVICE INC. <br /> 22871 South Highway 99 Ripon, California <br /> GENERAL BACKGROUND <br /> The site is located in a flat industrial/commercial area in northern Ripon, south of Jack Tone Road <br /> (Figure 1) The site is currently operated by Ripon Farm Service Inc (RFS),a company that stores, <br /> batches,and delivers fertilizers in bulk and diluted forms The eastern portion of the site is covered <br /> with dirt and gravel and consists of a wash-rack containment area with two concrete holding ponds <br /> and two storage buildings (Figure 2), the central portion is paved with asphalt and concrete and <br /> consists of bulk fertilizer preparation in containment areas and storage buildings, the western portion <br /> is covered with compacted gravel and asphalt and consists of a storage building/office,truck scale, <br /> and a former automotive shop Jimco Truck Stop is located immediately north of the site <br /> A petroleum-hydrocarbon release from former, leaking underground storage tanks (USTs) at the <br /> northwestern portion of the site is currently under assessment and remediation,utilizing five ground <br /> water monitoring wells and an assortment of remediation wells Remediation by soil vapor <br /> extraction and air-sparging techniques have mitigated a significant portion of the dissolved <br /> hydrocarbon plume under the western portion of the RFS site <br /> ADDITIONAL GROUND WATER ASSESSMENT <br /> The Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (CVRWQCB) directed by letter dated <br /> 16 July 2004 that RFS should characterize the quality of ground water,as well as ground water flow <br /> direction and gradient, at the RFS facility to determine if activities at the RFS facility have <br /> contributed to possible high nitrate concentrations in local ground water <br /> On 10 and 11 October 2005,four soil pilot borings for monitoring wells MW-101 through MW-104 <br /> were advanced using a CME-75HT drill rig,equipped with 8 25-inch diameter hollow-stem augers <br /> The pilot borings were completed as ground water monitoring wells using two-inch diameter PVC <br /> casing with 0 020-inch slotted screen installed from approximately 20 feet to 40 feet bsg with blank <br /> casing extended to the surface j <br /> SITE BACKGROUND <br /> The site is located in a flat industrial/commercial area in northern Ripon, south of Jack Tone Road <br /> (Figure 1) The site is currently operated by Ripon Farm Service,a company that stores,batches and <br /> delivers fertilizers in bulk and diluted forms The eastern portion of the site is dint and gravel <br /> covered and consists of a wash-rack containment area with two concrete holding ponds and two <br /> . storage buildings(Figure 2),the central portion is asphalt and concrete covered and consists of bulk <br /> Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc <br />
