' Appendix A- Historical Background <br /> Ripon Farm Service <br /> ' 22871 South Highway 99 <br /> Ripon, California <br /> ' The site 22871 South Highway 99 in-Ripon, California has been operated by Ripon Farm Service <br /> (RFS) for at least 40 years. Hydrocarbon fuels were stored and dispensed at the site for <br /> approximately 25 years. <br /> tSITE LOCATION <br /> The site is located in a flat industrial/commercial area in northern Ripon, south of Jack Tone Road. <br /> ' The site is currently operated by RFS.A former automotive shop is located near the northeast corner <br /> of the site, an office building and truck scale are located at the southern corner. The surface of the <br /> remainder of the site is covered with gravel. The Jimco Truck Stop is located immediately north of <br /> ' the site. <br /> ' REGIONAL GEOLOGICAL/HYDROGEOLOGICAL SETTING <br /> ' The site is situated within the Great Valley Geomorphic Province of California, a large, elongate <br /> northwest tending, asymmetric structural trough. The Great Valley Province has been filled with <br /> thick sequences of sediment ranging in age from Jurassic to Recent, creating a nearly flat lying <br /> ' alluvial plain extending from the Tehachapi Mountains in the south to the Klamath Mountains in the <br /> north. The western and eastern boundaries of this province are comprised of the California Coast <br /> Range and the Sierra Nevada,respectively.Rocks composing the basement complex of the province <br /> ' have not been completely defined but are believed to be of metamorphic and igneous origin. The <br /> Great Valley Province has been 'subdivided into two major divisions identified as the Sacramento <br /> and San Joaquin Valleys. <br /> ' The Modesto, Riverbank and Turlock Lake Formations and overlying Recent alluvium are the <br /> principal sources of domestic ground water in the 1.3,500-square mile San Joaquin Valley Ground <br /> ' Water Basin (Basin 5-22). This basin is drained primarily by the San Joaquin River. <br /> ' LOCAL GROUND WATER SETTING <br /> The closest surface water feature to the site is the Stanislaus River located approximately 9,000 feet <br /> ' south of the site. The river is used primarily for agricultural use and recreational boating. Ground <br /> water is currently encountered at a depth of approximately 26 feet below'surface grade (bsg) at the <br /> ' site, and has a northerly flow direction.
