t08 June 2001
AGE-NC Prol ect No 95-0137
' 26 SVE START-UP
The Solleco Ecat 250 SVE system began operation on 30 November 2000, when three-phase power
' was connected to the system from the main building on the site
The initiation of the SVE operation was observed on 05 December 2000 by representatives of the
San Joaquin Unified Air Pollution Control District (APCD) and of the PHS-EHD The SVE unit
operation is conducted in accordance with APCD permit N-4428 (Appendix B)
Measurement of the SVE flow rate, vacuum (potential), concentrations of the extracted soil-vapor
and collection of a set of soil-vapor samples were observed by the APCD personnel The samples
were collected to document baseline concentrations of hydrocarbon vapor in the soil-vapor extracted
' by the SVE network and to determine the SVE hydrocarbon destruction rate
' 27 SOIL-VAPOR EXTRACTION
The SVE system was monitored weekly for the first month of operation and monthly thereafter
During each monitoring event, the flow rate of extracted soil-vapor (influent) was measured using
an electrical DPT flow meter Vacuum potential was at two and one-half inch influent line using a
' magnehelic vacuum gauge
The organic-vapor concentration in the extracted soil-vapor stream was measured before entering
the blower (influent stream) and after exiting the catalytic unit (effluent stream) using an organic
vapor meter(OVM) equipped with a photo-ionization detector PID (Thermo Environmental 580A,
10 OeV, calibrated to isobutylene 100 ppb)
' Six sets of soil-vapor samples were collected during the first quarter of operation (Fourth quarter
2000 and First quarter 2001) Samples were collected on 05 December, 14 December, 20 December
2000, 04 January, 23 January and 27 February 2001, and 09 April 2001 in Tedlar vapor bags using
a vacuum pump attached to the influent and effluent stream The samples were labeled, placed in a
pre-chilled cooler and transported under chain-of-custody to MAI The samples were analyzed for
' • TPH-g in accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified and
• BTEX compounds and MTBE in accordance with EPA Method 8020
' The results of the laboratory analysis are summarized in Table 2
1
' Advanced GeoEnviron mental,Inc
